2020 Wrap Up: It’s Been a Minute…

Hello W@nderers,

It’s been a minute since I last posted on here, hasn’t it?

2020 was a hard year for all of us and I feel like, for the most part, I was coping fairly well- all things considered. Then in October I lost a family member and everything in my life just… came to a grinding halt. It was suddenly far too difficult to reach out, to write, to do anything but retreat into the safety of solitude. Processing the loss of a loved one is different for everyone but for me it was to try to find my center again, my footing, and to rely on those closest to me.

The strangest thing about 2020 is that in any other year I would turn to books for comfort, and maybe even a little escapism. But not this year. It was so hard to pick up a book, and I relied heavily on short audiobooks.

So here we are, five months later, and I am happy to report that I magically met my 2020 reading goal!

This blog is supposed to be an opportunity for me to share the things I like- wandering about while wondering about things like cats, books, and travel. So I’d like to get back to it – well, the wondering part anyway. Wandering will have to wait a little bit, but still.

First, thanks for reading. And second, I hope you and yours are safe and healthy, and I feel you if you’re struggling right now. You’re not alone. Join me for this recap, and then maybe a nightcap- or late-night cocoa. Because we deserve it.

2020 Wrap Up:

  • Sword of the Highlands by Veronica Wolff
  • The World of Lore: Dreadful Places by Aaron Mahnke
  • Home Before Dark by Riley Sager
  • Hallowe’en Party by Agatha Christie
  • The Checklist Manifesto: How to Get Things Right by Atul Gawande
  • Monster Blood by R.L. Stine

  • Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko

  • How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black
  • Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
  • The Rise of Skywalker by Rae Carson

And there we have it! For 2020, my reading goal was to read a total of 40 books, and I am so pleased to have read 57. That is huge for me, and I’m so excited, especially because I am not the fastest reader. In fact, when I am enjoying a book, my pace slows WAY down, so I can savor it.

Does anyone else do that? Just me?

Many of the books in the last 3 months of 2020 were spectacular, and perhaps I’ll write individual reviews for some of them. Let me know in the comments if there is one you’d like to hear my thoughts on in particular, because I’d love to hear yours too!
